In our previous post, we talked about bed bugs, their characteristics, life cycle, where they hide, and signs of a bed bug infestation. In this new post, we will explain how to eliminate bed bugs and how a pest control specialist tested Tag.Link.Page.OzoneSanitizing as an effective and safe way to eliminate bed bugs.

How to Eliminate Bed Bugs

There are several methods used to eliminate bed bugs, including pesticides, heat treatment, freezing, using organic and inorganic materials, vacuuming, and more. But bed bugs are not easy to eliminate, and some pest control professionals may even use a combination of methods. Bed bugs are resistant to insecticides, they have a very fast reproduction rate, and they quickly disperse to neighboring areas. Because of this, bed bugs have become a public health threat, and depending on the degree of the infestation, it may take a pest control professional 2-3 visits to completely control the problem.

A pest control specialist named Michael Nihill from Attack Exterminating Co. in New York was using a heat treatment to kill bed bugs. It would usually take him from 6 to 8 hours to reach a bed bug-killing temperature of 116 to 135 degrees. Once that temperature was reached, it would take about an hour to eliminate the bed bugs. When he heard about Germinator, he decided to go all the way to Atlanta to try it out. He wanted to check the effectiveness of the combination of ozone and heat treatments, so he ran an experiment to demonstrate the effectiveness of ozone sanitizing on killing bed bugs. As you can see in the video above, Michael Nihill had four vials of live bed bugs from all the different stages of life (eggs, nymphs, adults). He put three bottles into the Germinator unit, and he kept one as a control specimen. After 60 minutes, all the bed bugs in the control vial were still alive. When he checked the bottles from the Germinator, to his surprise, all the bed bugs were dead!

Nihill was shocked when he saw the results. It would usually take him 6 to 8 hours to reach the bed bug-killing temperature of 116 to 135 degrees, and then about an hour to kill the bedbugs, whereas in the Germinator, the temperature reached was 140 degrees, and in less than an hour, the bed bugs are all killed. He concluded that Germinator is 100% effective for killing bed bugs.
